We want to extend a warm welcome to all of our families as we embark on a new school year! We are eager to get to work!
We would like to share with you some homework strategies that might help your child transition successfully into this new school year:
- Identify a specific time and place for homework. Children respond well to consistency and predictability. Children can benefit from having a routine in place that he or she must follow each night to complete homework assignments.
- Turn the TV off! You might want to think about making a No TV! Rule during homework time. A quiet environment with minimal distractions is optimal so that children can concentrate on reinforcing concepts introduced in class.
- Help your child with the task if necessary. Provide positive praise for your child's effort and performance.
- Communicate with the teacher if your child takes a long time to complete one task. You can write a note in the homework journal.
- Skills such as spelling and memorization of math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) may be practiced by using various educational websites. Many of these sites can be accessed through the Jeffrey School website—just click on “Curriculum Links” to get started! They are one way of keeping rote learning fun!
Have a great year!
