Dear Families,

As we progress towards spring, and as winter comes to a close, I can hardly believe how fast time is moving.  Students are starting to look forward to warm days, and outdoor activities.  We have some fun field trips on the way, I can’t wait!

Math class is as fun as ever!  The students are participating in what I call a “Multiplication Fact Relay” game.  This really heats up some friendly competition!  We just wrapped up our data and probability unit, and we will be moving into area and perimeter very shortly.  Students are also using some super brain power to solve logic puzzles for extra credit.  These are really challenging, and get the students to think outside the box.

We have been writing, writing, writing!  Students in Room 18 are becoming fabulous authors!  The children have been focusing extensively on developing their main event.  They are learning to draw out the action, write great details, and really entertain their audience.  Students are also taking full advantage of peer conferencing.  This allows them to critique and evaluate other peoples writing, while have a second perspective on their own pieces.

Explorer research has been the focus of our social studies class.  Students began reading in small groups from our text book to get the flavor and the background of the times previous to the days of exploration.  The class has done a wonderful job using our school resources to gain knowledge and understanding of their explorer.  I can hardly wait to play their game boards.  I think we are all in for a great time!

For science, the class spent the last unit with Mr. Pluchino learning all about sound.  Good times!  Looking ahead, students will be learning about electricity, and I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot of light bulbs going on (no pun intended!).

As always, please keep the lines of communication open.  I look forward to hearing from you.

                                                                        Thanks,

                                                                        Jennifer Hall
