News from Mrs. Soja’s K!

Hello!

There’s a lot going on in Room 9!  Another month has flown by, and spring weather seems like it is finally upon us.  It has been so nice to get outside and play on the playground!  The children continue to do an amazing job working together as a classroom family.

little critterWe have begun a new author study this month, Mercer Mayer.  Many of the children have various Mercer Mayer books, and it is great to see the excitement on their face when they realize they know this author’s work.  I have chosen to read many of his older materials, and we have had a lot of fun reading about alligators under beds, and nightmares in closets!  We are also having a wonderful time reading “chapter” books.  Good old Junie B. Jones sure makes for a really fun read aloud time! (Plus I love doing her “voice”!)

The children have been working hard on their non-fiction books.  They have made beautiful title pages, and most have completed and shared their books with their classmates.  We are very excited to  have them come back as “hard-cover” books and a HUGE thank-you to all who helped!

Speaking of books, each child has continued with their great skills as authors and illustrators! We have begun a fiction story where each child has chosen a fictional character to write about.  We have discussed story elements; beginning, middle, end, setting, characters, problems, solutions, etc.  What a wonderful way to incorporate all we have learned!

 writingSAVE THE DATE!!

We would like to have you all save the dates: A.M. Friday, May 16- 9:15 Music Informance, 9:45 Writing Celebration / P.M. Thursday, May 15- 1:15 Music Informance, 1:45 Writing Celebration.  Parents are invited to attend the children’s music class (with my sister!!! J) and then come back to the room for a celebration of all our writing! More details to come, but wanted everyone to have the opportunity to get off of work, etc.  We really want each child to have at least one person here to share in this very special day, so if no-one from your family can attend, a grandparent, babysitter, or anyone significant to your child is welcome!

Have a wonderful and safe April vacation!
